Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for connectivity, today announced the opening of its new lab in Dongguan, China. Centrally located in the heart of the Pearl River Delta electronics ecosystem, GRL Dongguan offers world-class test and certification capabilities focused initially on supporting the high speed cable, connector, charger, and peripherals industry. This is GRL’s second lab in China following the opening of GRL Shanghai in 2016.
GRL Dongguan offers deep technical expertise in signal and power integrity, cable/connector mechanical design, testing, and debugging, as well as industry leadership in USB Type-C®, charging technologies including USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and Qualcomm® Quick Charge™, and consumer data and video technologies including Thunderbolt™ and HDMI. GRL Dongguan is led by cable and connector industry veterans and signal integrity experts.
GRL Dongguan offers official logo certification testing for HDMI Premium Cables (through the Philips HDMI ATC hosted by GRL), Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 4 and 4+ chargers, USB and USB Type-C® cables and connectors, and USB Power Delivery chargers.
“Foxconn welcomes the opening of GRL’s Dongguan facility,” said Jason Hor, Senior Director, Global Procurement Services Division of Foxconn Technology Group. “GRL has an excellent reputation for technical leadership in new, complex, and quickly evolving standards like USB Type-C, USB Power Delivery, and HDMI. We expect that GRL’s expertise in standards, along with their test and measurement capabilities, will be a valuable resource for Foxconn in South China.”
“GRL has an excellent reputation for supporting new charging technologies,” said Mark Fu, Senior Marketing Director of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. “GRL’s South China lab will help our ODM and OEM partners successfully integrate our latest USB Power Delivery charging ICs into end products.”
“New charging technologies offer extraordinary benefits in terms of user experience, but present significant design and test challenges at the R&D and manufacturing level,” said Terrell Morrow, Vice President of Product Development of Xentris Wireless. “GRL’s South China lab capabilities and test automation solutions will be a valuable resource for the entire charger ecosystem.”
“GRL’s flexible services, experienced staff, and state-of-the-art facility will be a valuable resource for multinational cable and connector developers with R&D and manufacturing centers in South China,” said Sunney Yang, General Manager, Acon USA. “We expect that GRL’s ‘on-demand’ services will help our Thunderbolt™ 3 cabling development effectively to meet critical time-to-market goals by working seamlessly with our US and South China design and manufacturing partners.”
“South China has become a leading center of design and innovation, as well as an advanced hi-tech manufacturing hub. Faster and more complex technologies have created even greater demand for local design, test, and debugging support,” said Johnson Tan, GRL Co-Founder and CEO. “However, independent experts and official test labs are mostly located outside China. By offering local capabilities, GRL expects to reduce debugging cycles and help our customers confidently release products to market faster and with the highest quality to ensure interoperability and meet global requirements.”
