GRL Taipei Approved for Thunderbolt™ 5 Host and Device Product Certification Testing

GRL’s facility in Taipei expands its suite of Thunderbolt™ offerings to now encompass product certification testing for Thunderbolt™ 5 and earlier generations.

Granite River Labs (“GRL”), a global leader in engineering services, automated test solutions for digital connectivity and charging technologies, and professional market access services, is proud to announce that its Taipei facility has officially been approved by Intel® to be a Thunderbolt™ 5 Host and Device product certification testing laboratory. Manufacturers can now fulfill the full range of Thunderbolt™ 5 specifications through comprehensive certification testing, pre-certification testing, and debugging services provided by design and engineering experts in GRL.

This development aligns with the previous recognition acquired by GRL Taipei and Shanghai for official Thunderbolt™ 4 host and device product certification in 2020. GRL Dongguan also joined the ranks in July 2023, securing approval to conduct Thunderbolt™ 3 and 4 certification testing for both hosts and devices. The recent approval of GRL Taipei to conduct Thunderbolt™ 5 product certification testing underscores GRL’s commitment in expanding Thunderbolt™ certification testing capabilities across its laboratories.

Thunderbolt™ 5 was announced in September 2023 by Intel® to be the latest generation of the Thunderbolt™ high-speed transmission specification. Building upon the success of its predecessor, Thunderbolt™ 4, this next generation offers an enhanced user experience by supporting up to three times more bandwidth than current solutions. With a bi-directional bandwidth of 80 gigabits per second (Gbps), Thunderbolt™ 5 is poised to meet the increasing demands of gamers, content creators, and professionals.

“Achieving this milestone is a testament to GRL’s unwavering commitment to staying at the forefront of Thunderbolt™ testing,” said Holger Kunz, GRL’s President of Worldwide Services. “With our extensive technical leadership and expertise, we continue to support strong Thunderbolt™ adoption by ensuring that customers receive comprehensive and up-to-date certification services across multiple Thunderbolt™ generations.”
