GRL and Realtek Announce Certified DisplayPort™ UHBR (Ultra-high Bit Rate) Branch Device solution

Realtek’s DisplayPort 2.0 Branch Device (Sink and Source) solution achieves DisplayPort UHBR certification at GRL to the latest DisplayPort standard version 2.0

Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for connectivity, and Realtek Semiconductor Corp., one of the world's leading IC design houses, announced that the Realtek DisplayPort 2.0 branch device solution has been certified under the DisplayPort UHBR (Ultra-high Bit Rate) Certification Program administered by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®) for products supporting the higher data link rates supported by the DisplayPort standard version 2.0 (DP 2.0). Certification testing was performed at GRL’s DisplayPort Authorized Test Center (ATC) in Taipei, Taiwan in accordance with product compliance standards established by VESA.

The DP 2.0 standard guarantees display connectivity and operation at the highest performance levels, providing a wide range of applications for the end products. Announced by VESA in 2019, DP 2.0 provides up to a 3X increase in data bandwidth performance compared to the previous version DisplayPort 1.4a, as well as beyond 8K resolutions and higher refresh rates. DP 2.0 is backward compatible with previous versions of DisplayPort and incorporates all of the key features of DP 1.4a, including support for visually lossless Display Stream Compression (DSC) with Forward Error Correction (FEC), and high dynamic range (HDR) support at higher resolutions. Realtek’s DisplayPort 2.0 branch device design simultaneously functions as a DisplayPort 2.0 Sink and Source . Realtek is now leading the Display industry to the next generation with such high resolution video/audio technology.

“GRL has worked closely with VESA since our founding in 2010, and works with all key players contributing to the DisplayPort standard. We are dedicated to supporting the development of DisplayPort products,” said Holger Kunz, GRL’s President of Worldwide Services. “We are pleased that Realtek has chosen GRL’s technical expertise in DisplayPort to ensure that their products meet rigorous compliance and interoperability requirements and be outstanding in a fast-moving and extremely competitive market.”

Yee-Wei Huang, Spokesman and vice president of the Multimedia Business Group at Realtek, stated, “We are proud to announce that our first DisplayPort 2.0 Branch Device (Sink and Source) solution, in collaboration with Granite River Labs, has passed VESA’s UHBR Certification Program. This will help customers to quickly achieve end-product certification as part of the VESA interoperability compliance testing program. With the new Realtek DisplayPort 2.0 Branch Device (Sink and Source) solution, an end user can enjoy a more responsive and better resolution display on multiple display applications. This offers a significant leap forward that can satisfy both commercial and consumer markets as high quality monitors and docking stations continue to evolve.”
