Granite River Labs Offers USB 3.0 Test Training Classes to Support Growing Industry Interest in USB 3.0

Granite River Labs (GRL) will now begin to offer training classes for companies releasing USB 3.0 products and needing to know how to properly test their products.

Granite River Labs is pleased to announce its first USB 3.0 Physical Layer Test Seminar and Hands-On Workshop in its new lab in Santa Clara, led by GRL Chief Technology Engineer Mike Engbretson. This session will be held on Friday, March 18.

The session will start with a USB 3.0 CTS 0.9 Overview and Introduction to the Vendor Test Tools. The rest of the session will be focused on training in a hands-on lab environment.

In the Hands-On Labs, participants will divide up into breakout sessions where they will have an opportunity to perform testing with the latest tools and receive professional instruction from GRL Test Experts. Each lab group will rotate through the following informative and insightful labs:

Lab 1 – Physical Layer Transmitter Testing:

o Transmitter Compliance Testing – Learn to perform a USB 3.0 Transmitter ‘Plug Fest’ Compliance Test o Determining your Transmitters True Margin – Learn to De-Embed test fixture and cable losses from your measurements.

Lab 2 – Receiver Physical Layer Testing:

o Receiver Compliance Testing – Learn to perform a USB 3.0 Receiver ‘Plug Fest’ Compliance Test o Receiver Margin Testing – Learn how to determine how much margin you have in your Receiver design

Lab 3 – Cable S-Parameter Creation:

o S-Parameter Measurement – Learn to measure Cable and Fixture losses o Understanding TouchStone Files – Learn the structure of industry standard file format for S-parameters

The Hands-On Labs will feature an Agilent Test Equipment: DSA 90000 Series Oscilloscope, J-BERT-B BERT, and DCA-J Series Sampling Oscilloscope

About the Trainer: Mike Engbretson has been in been in the test solutions business for over 20 years. Prior to Granite River Labs, Mike was a Senior Professional in Tektronix’s Technology Solutions Group where he was heavily involved with such standards as USB, PCI Express, and SATA. Mike is currentlythe Chief Technology Engineer for Granite River Labs and the Compliance Test Spec Editor for DisplayPort 1.2
