Granite River Labs (GRL) announced today that they have been qualified by Intel® Corporation to perform Thunderbolt product certification testing for AV, Storage, and PCI Express Expansion devices. GRL is the first and only test center authorized to test Thunderbolt products to ensure that they meet the Thunderbolt specifications. GRL currently provides Thunderbolt product certification and pre-certification testing at its Santa Clara, Calif. facility, and Thunderbolt product pre-certification testing at its Taipei, Taiwan facility. GRL expects to offer Thunderbolt product certification testing in Taiwan later this year.
A result of close technical collaboration between Intel and Apple, Thunderbolt is a revolutionary I/O technology that supports high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices through a single, compact port. Only products that have passed official certification testing are authorized to display the Thunderbolt icon.
“We are excited to support the Thunderbolt ecosystem as an authorized test center and to continue our support of strong Thunderbolt adoption,” said Johnson Tan, Chief Executive Officer at GRL. “We have leveraged our technical leadership and expertise in PCI Express and DisplayPort to offer a complete suite of Thunderbolt product certification and pre-certification test services, with ultra-responsive service and deep technical support.”
“The certification program is critical to the successful launch of Thunderbolt products and it assures customers that the products meet the compliance and interoperability requirements expected for Thunderbolt products,” said Jason Ziller, Director of Thunderbolt Marketing & Planning, Intel Corporation. “GRL has invested significant energy in support of the Thunderbolt product certification testing program and we are pleased to approve them as an authorized test center.”
