Offering extensive engineering services and test automation solutions

Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for high speed connectivity, today announced the opening of its new lab located in Shanghai, China.

GRL Shanghai will support official certification testing, pre-compliance, and debugging support focused on high speed interfaces including USB, DisplayPort, HDMI, Thunderbolt, DDR, MIPI, PCI Express, SATA, SAS, SD Card/UHS-II and 10G/40G/100G Ethernet. In addition, GRL brings to China industry leadership in USB Type-C®, USB Power Delivery (USB-PD), and the emerging Internet of Things (IoT), as well as deep expertise in signal integrity and protocol analysis.

GRL will focus on the entire Chinese hardware ecosystem, from IC developers to manufacturers, offering services that extend well beyond the traditional “test lab”, such as electrical characterization and debugging of early silicon across process, voltage, and temperature (PVT), signal and power integrity validation and consultation, and turnkey product design services. GRL has supported a growing number of China-based customers since opening a local sales office in 2013.

“Parade welcomes the opening of GRL’s Shanghai facility,” said Craig Wiley, Senior Director of Marketing, Parade Technologies,Inc.. “GRL has an excellent reputation for technical leadership and OEM enabling in new, complex, and quickly evolving standards like DisplayPort and USB Type-C. We expect that GRL’s expertise in standards, along with their test and measurement capabilities, will be a valuable resource for the semiconductor ecosystem in China, along with system OEM product certification and deployment.”

“GRL has an excellent reputation for supporting early specifications,” said Jing-Fan Zhang, CEO of Fresco Logic.  “New, faster connectivity technologies offer extraordinary benefits in terms of user experience, but present significant design and validation challenges. GRL’s expertise and lab capabilities will be a valuable resource for the entire semiconductor product market in China.”

“It is not possible for us to achieve USB 3.0 IP certification without GRL’s flexible test, trouble-shooting services, experienced staff, and state-of-the-art facility. It will be an invaluable resource for all hardware developers in China, ” said Sheng Lu, CEO of Corigine Inc., a high speed connectivity IP and system solutions provider. “Especially for a growing global company like Corigine, having local access to GRL’s ‘on-demand’ services will help us cost-effectively meet critical design and time-to-market goals.”

GRL’s new lab will feature state-of-the-art test equipment from Keysight Technologies and BitifEye test automation solutions. “Like Keysight, GRL stays at the forefront of new connectivity standards and we are very pleased that they have selected our equipment for their new lab in Shanghai,” said Steve Yan, Vice President and General Manager, Greater China Field Operations, Keysight Technologies.

“We are very excited to expand GRL’s presence in mainland China,” said Johnson Tan, co-Founder and CEO of Granite River Labs. “Chinese hardware developers place strong emphasis on interoperability and validation at every stage of the product lifecycle, from chip level to system level, including production testing. These merits match well with GRL’s deep engineering expertise and industry leadership in new and emerging technologies.”
