Granite River Labs (GRL), a global leader in engineering services and test solutions for connectivity, announced the release of its comprehensive USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and USB Type-CⓇ test solution, GRL-USB-PD-C2-EPR (C2-EPR). The C2-EPR supports the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) latest USB PD 3.1 specification in a single tester.

The latest USB PD 3.1 specification provides more flexible Power Delivery of up to 240W of power along with data over a single USB Type-C connector and cable that supports a wider range of solutions with higher wattage requirements beyond the previous limit of 100W.

The increased power range enabled in USB PD 3.1 offers great promise for developers, but presents unique design and test challenges in compliance, reliability and inter-operability.  Validating the designs having multi-ports with power sharing capability  introduces additional testing complexity, the C2-EPR provides an efficient, and fully-integrated way to test and validate extended power range designs to the latest Power Delivery specification. The solution supports up to 240W Power Delivery Implementation and is backwards compatible with the legacy 100W Power Delivery Specification.

The C2-EPR automates all required USB PD compliance and related tests over a USB Type-C connector, as well as DisplayPortTM and Thunderbolt 3 Alternate Modes. Integrates Qualcomm® Quick ChargeTM 5 and Legacy. It integrates all required USB PD tests into a single tester, including all tests supported on GRL’s USB-IF approved GRL-C2 solution introduced in 2017. The two ports on the tester can be independently configured to emulate Source or Sink. The C2-EPR is essential in facilitating the development of reliable certified USB charging solutions for the USB ecosystem.

“GRL is proud to offer USB Power delivery version 3.1 test solution and add to our list of contributions to the USB ecosystem,” said Rajaraman V, GRL Executive Vice President of Protocol & Power Solutions.  “The new C2-EPR enables USB PD developers and test labs to eliminate redundant test tools and rely on one solution to provide the widest coverage for validating USB designs with the USB-IF compliance test specifications.”
