CSA Matter 1.2 Standard Update | Smart Home Device Connectivity & Compatibility

The latest update to the groundbreaking smart home connectivity standard, Matter 1.2, has been officially released by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). This update follows up in quick succession to Matter 1.1's release on May 18, 2022, bringing a new and improved IP-based smart home connectivity protocol that features support for an even wider range of device types, clusters, core specification changes, and more. 

 

Compatible devices supported by Matter 1.2 standard

The Matter 1.2 update further expands the smart home ecosystem by providing users with more viable home appliance options to add to their existing network. These device types include:

  • Air Purifiers
  • Air Quality Monitors
  • Dishwashers
  • Fan Control
  • Laundry Washers
  • Refrigerators
  • Robotic Vacuum Cleaners
  • Room Air Conditioners
  • Smoke CO Alarms

 

Cluster updates in Matter 1.2

In addition, a set of new clusters offering innovative features, heightened efficiency, and user convenience has also been introduced to further enrich the capabilities of connected devices. Existing clusters from the previous Matter 1.1 have also received upgrades.

Notable revisions include device appearance within the Basic Information interface, as well as changes to the DoorLock cluster for greater compatibility with European markets. Specifically, the newly revised DoorLock cluster now carries a new unbolting feature that lets users unlock doors without pulling the latch, along with an all new Euro cylinder lock type.

 

ICD Management for SIT/LIT

The Alliance has also made significant improvements to the management of short idle time intermittently connected devices (SIT) and long idle time intermittently connected devices (LIT). These enhancements optimize the behavior of such devices for better performance and power efficiency.
